Question 1

What is the Schoolcraft College millage renewal?

Accepted Answer

The Schoolcraft College millage renewal is a request to continue an existing property tax that has supported the college since 1961. This is a renewal — not a new tax — meaning it simply continues funding that is already in place. It does not increase taxes.

Question 4

How long would the millage renewal last?

Accepted Answer

The millage renewal would be authorized for 10 years, providing Schoolcraft College with stable, predictable funding to maintain programs, facilities, and services for the community.

Question 5

Will this increase my taxes?

Accepted Answer

No. This is a renewal of an existing millage — not a new tax. Your property tax bill will not increase as a result of this renewal. The rate remains the same as it has been.

Question 6

What is the millage rate?

Accepted Answer

The millage renewal continues the existing rate that property owners in the Schoolcraft College district are already paying. Because this is a renewal and not a new or increased millage, there is no change to your current tax obligation.

Question 7

Will tuition increase if the millage passes?

Accepted Answer

Schoolcraft College has committed to a tuition freeze for the 2025 and 2026 school years. The millage renewal helps make that possible by providing stable local funding so the college does not need to rely solely on tuition revenue to cover operating costs.

Question 8

What happens if the millage does not pass?

Accepted Answer

If the millage renewal fails, Schoolcraft College would face a significant reduction in operating revenue. This could result in program cuts, reduced services, facility closures, and potential tuition increases — directly impacting students, employees, and the broader community.

Question 9

What does the millage fund?

Accepted Answer

Millage funds support Schoolcraft College's core operations, including academic programs, faculty and staff, campus facilities, student services, and workforce development initiatives. Local millage dollars are essential to keeping tuition affordable and maintaining the quality of education the community depends on.

Question 10

Does the millage fund the Bricklayers apprenticeship and workforce programs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Stable local funding from the millage makes it possible for Schoolcraft to invest in innovative workforce partnerships like the MI-CCAP Bricklayers apprenticeship-to-college-credit program — the first of its kind in Michigan — as well as dual enrollment for high school students and the Trinity Health healthcare career pipeline.

Question 11

Does the millage support the Trinity Health nursing and healthcare partnership?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The millage helps sustain the infrastructure and programs that make partnerships like the one with Trinity Health Michigan possible. This landmark agreement provides full tuition assistance for students and Trinity Health employees pursuing careers in eight high-demand healthcare fields, all on the Schoolcraft campus.

Question 12

Does the millage fund dual enrollment for high school students?

Accepted Answer

The dual enrollment program is funded primarily through state dollars secured with the help of State Sen. Dayna Polehanki. However, the millage supports the college's overall capacity to host and expand these programs — including the facilities, faculty, and student services that make dual enrollment possible at no cost to families.

Question 13
